Canterbury Wine School delivers WSET (Wine, Spirit and Education Trust) courses for members of the hospitality industry, the wine trade and wine lovers as well as our own wine appreciation courses and tasting events. We provide high class, quality wine education and events in in carefully selected the venues in the Canterbury area to meet the needs and demands of the particular course or event. We offer:

Level 2 Award in Wine and Spirits
This qualification will teach you about the key grape varieties grown around the world, the different styles of wine produced and the production of spirits and liqueurs. The systematic approach to wine tasting is followed when tasting each wine.
The course covers the major grape varieties, regions of the world, food and wine pairing, and sparkling wines. Included, as part of your course, is a tutored tasting through 45 wines from around the world. A one-hour multiple choice question paper with 50 questions takes place during the last session of which the pass mark is 55%.
You will not need any formal qualification just an enthusiasm for the subject and willingness to learn. This course is ideal for anyone wishing to be introduced to wine in an informative and structured manner. It is suitable for both the enthusiastic amateur and professional who is looking to enter or already working in the wine and hospitality business.
Enquiries are welcome from organisations wishing to hold bespoke wine training.
N.B. Students and candidates who are under the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages in the country where the examination is being held will NOT be allowed to sample any alcoholic beverages as part of their Level 2 course, but this is NOT a barrier for successfully completing the qualification.
Level 2 Course – new course starting Monday 2nd August 2021
The course consists of 9 two-hour sessions with the multiple-choice exam being held on the final session.

Level 2 Costs
The cost of the course including course material, tasting wines, your own set of six ISO glasses and examination fees and marking is £ 425.00.
Level 3 Award in Wine
This course is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of a wide range of wines. It focuses on factors that influence the style, quality and price of wines from major wine regions of the world. You will taste a minimum of 60 wines and develop analytical tasting skills to a high level of competency using the systematic approach to tasting.
This course is open to students who hold the Level 2 Award in Wine (& Spirits). However, we recognise that there are students who may have experience and knowledge in the wine business that is equivalent to the Level 2. Please contact us for further details on the necessary levels required to join the course.
In order to achieve the Level 3 award, students will need to pass the WSET Level 3 Award examination. This comprises of two parts: a combined theory paper consisting of a 50- question multiple-choice section and a five-question short answer written section; and a blind tasting of two wines. A mark of 55% is required in all sections to pass with the exam taking place in the last session of the course.
Level 3 course will be run in the Autumn of 2021.
The course consists of 15 two-hour sessions run over 8 Mondays plus a morning for the exam. The dates are as follows:
October 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
November 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd; exam date 29th November.

Level 3 costs
The cost of the course, including course materials, your own set of 6 glasses, tasting a minimum of 60 wines, registration and examination fee is £745.00.
All our courses will be delivered by fully qualified tutors and we are delighted to announce that Clive Barlow MW will be the lead tutor. Clive has spent over two decades in the wine trade and has taught at many levels to the wine industry and wine enthusiasts. Canterbury Wine School is managed by Ann Morris MA, who has been involved in education for over 30 years.
